Meet The Women Of The Blockchain: Lisa Cheng, Founder of Vanbex and Etherparty

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world? Can you share a story?

We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to donate to charities and social causes that have impacted us personally — Big Brothers, the Canadian Cancer Society, Union Gospel Mission, and the SPCA are some of those that we support regularly.

We are also working on a social initiative with Etherparty to incentivize charitable giving and combining blockchain. This next product, called Hero is an animated way of teaching people how blockchain works while at the same time bringing more awareness and support to charities.

What 3 things would you advise to someone who wanted to emulate your career? Can you share an example for each idea?

1. Get an outbound sales job — sales is the lifeblood of a company and knowing how to pitch and sell to people no matter how many times you get rejected is good experience for any entrepreneur

2. Figure out what your passionate about — someone told me once where you steer towards when reading a newspaper is what you are passionate about and should try to make a career out of.

3. Get familiar with financing — I had to learn about equity financing and raising funds through our first seed round, I would have had much more insight into the process knowing what I know today.

What is your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that had relevance to your own life?

Fake it til you make it — when I was first told this, I thought that sounds ridiculous — why would I want to fake anything? Now, over the years when I am feeling nervous before going on stage at a conference or speaking in front of large groups — this saying makes more sense to me.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

I am really passionate about climate change and would love to see an initiative to track CO2 levels in the Ocean, this started as a result of reading how in 2048 its estimated all saltwater fish may be extinct. Then I learned that the ocean currently consumes about 25% of CO2 in our atmosphere. We need to be able to see and track the research that’s being done about this on a global scale and make it accessible for people around the world so people will be informed and take initiative to do something about it.

How can our readers follow you on social media?

This was very inspiring. Thank you so much for joining us!

Thank you!
