隨手聽了個 the making of a nation-American history in VOA，打算先聽懂一篇，然後慢慢聽。。。

首先，nation，都是表示國家（country與state）區別在哪裡呢？--轉載如下，總結就是，nation 更多代表民族，country側重祖國的大好河山，疆土，而state偏重政治方面。

講到“國家”的英文，小夥伴們腦海裡是不是蹦出了好幾個單詞。比如nation，the United nations就是聯合國的意思；像“state”，美國的全稱是“the United States of America”,即“美利堅合眾國”；還有一個”country”,也是表示“國家”的意思。那同樣表示“國家”，這三個單詞有什麼區別呢？

1、Nation

Wikipedia：A nation (from Latin: natio,"people, tribe, kin, genus, class, flock") is a large group or collective of people with common characteristics attributed to them — including language, traditions, mores (customs), habitus(habits), and ethnicity.

Nation指生活在某一土地上的族群，是某一特定人群在某種文化意義上的共同體。他們有著共同的一些特徵，比如語言、傳統、習俗等。

我們平時說的“民族”、“國族”、“中華民族”就是這樣一種nation的概念。

E.g. His story touched the nation's heart.

他的故事感動了全體國民。

E.g. The whole nation mourned the death of their great leader.

舉國人民向去世的偉大領袖表示了深深的哀悼。

2、Country

Wikipedia ：A country is a region that is identified as a distinct national entity in political geography.

Country更多的指一個國家山川大地等自然特徵，強調“疆土、土地”概念。

E.g. Why are my eyes always filled with tears,because I love my country so deeply.

為什麼我的眼裡常含淚水，因為我對這片土地愛地深沉。（艾青語）

E.g. Don't ask what your country can do for you,ask what you can do for your country.

不要問你的國家能為你做什麼，問問你能為你的國家做什麼？

3、State

State (polity), anorganized community living under a single political structure and government, sovereign orconstituent

State指的是一個國家的“政府、政權”。

E.g. The state does not collect enough revenue to cover its expenditure.

該國政府入不敷出。

E.g. A state has its obligations to protect people.

政府有義務保護它的人民。

所以，總而言之，雖然同是“國家”, country是地理和國土上的概念；nation是從民族和國民層面上而言；而“state”是政治和政權上的意思。我們和“nation”, “country”之間是先天的，自然的紐帶關係，我們愛國，這是一種淳樸的感情。而我們和“state”之間則是契約的關係，我們讓渡一些權利，組成政府，由其提供公共服務來保護和服務我們。
