AWS Case Study: MPS Technologies

“Moving to AWS has decreased our time to market,” says Goyal. “As the administrator, I appreciate that by using AWS, I can raise, expand, and downsize servers, or take whatever action I need when I have to do it. When our applications ran on physical servers, we were required to follow many intricate processes if we needed to upgrade or purchase a new server. It was a time-consuming process, involving many people, and often took as long as three months. With AWS, I can spin up an Amazon EC2 instance in as little as 30 minutes or less. Decommissioning a server is just as easy with AWS, but very difficult with physical servers.”

Goyal also believes that increased server uptime has helped improve the company’s ability to meet customer requirements. He says, “We have much lower latency with better bandwidth now that we’re using AWS, and our customers are reporting 10-15 percent faster server response time.”

Most importantly, MPS is able to achieve a high level of security with AWS, consistent with MPS’s on-premises data centers. At the same time, the company has been able to reduce its capital expenditures. "The migration to AWS easily saved us about $50,000 in operating expenditures for hardware and operating systems,” says Goyal. “I am confident that we will be able to reduce our capital expenditures by $150,000 per year, and that over the next three years, we will save $450,000."
