Before you close your AWS account, back up any resources or data you want to keep. For instructions on how you might back up a particular resource, see the documentation for that service.

Note: For security reasons, AWS Support can't close an account on your behalf.

To close your AWS account:

1. Sign in to your account, and then navigate to the Account Settings page.
2. Scroll to the Close Account heading.
3. Choose the check box, and then choose Close Account.
4. In the confirmation box, choose Close Account.

Within a few minutes, you'll receive email confirmation that your account has been closed successfully.

After your account is closed, you can still sign in, view your past billing information, or contact AWS Support for up to 90 days.

After 90 days, the account will be permanently deleted and inaccessible, and can't be reopened. Also, the email address associated with the account at the time that it was closed can't be used to create new AWS accounts.

Note: If you want to close the master account in an organization, first delete the organization.
