I’ve got a new startup idea for you!

Hello there Human, I’ve got an exciting proposal for you. Given that you opened the article I will assume you are a savvy kind of human who’s always opened for new business ideas. Well here’s the best idea for a startup you will ever have — it’s called “nothing”.Here are top reasons why you should drop all your other side-project and start working on this startup right now.

You will have more free time. You will be able to reconnect with other humans around you. You never know, maybe you discover you have a spouse you forgot about 9 months ago when you pivoted your gourmet dog biscuit delivery service into a dog sled version of Uber. You might even have some extra time to finally learn how to play that guitar you bought and never touched again. All the things that you planned to do once you are ‘finished’ with your side-project thing — you can do them right now.

You will lead a less stressful life. Having a side project is like having a second job — it’s all fun and games for a first week but then the boring part needs to be done. However, you invested too much effort in it already so you can’t really give up now. Now you have to do twice as many stuff that you hate than when you just had a regular job. When you start working on the “nothing” project you will instantly cut the amount of work that you have to do in half — thus reducing the stress.

As bonus points, you will no longer have an excuse to postpone resolving problems in your day job. Maybe you should spend some time refactoring that spaghetti code that’s been giving you nightmares for the past six months? Maybe you could automate some of the boring stuff? Who knows you might even get a promotion, or find a better job at a company that does not suck.

And last, but not least — you will finally do something that makes this world a better place. If you ever tried to think of a new startup idea, and given how hip and cool having a startup is you surely have, you probably realized that everything already exists and even though that we do not need most of those things. In the current day and age the only thing we’re missing is more nothings. Imagine how much you will improve other peoples lives by not terrorizing them with your useless startup idea which only true purpose is to make you more money that you don’t really need anyway.
