很多考生都會覺得考研英語是很令人頭疼的科目，這不僅僅是因為考研英語會有很多長難句的出現，還因為有很多的固定短語和搭配的使用比較複雜，比如在考研英語中出現頻率比較多的more than，一直困擾這很多的考生。今天，跨考教育張梅老師就給大家詳細的介紹一下more than的相關知識。

例如在2006年的翻譯真題中，第50題就出現過這樣的考查：

They may teach very well, and more than earn their salaries, but most of them make little or no independent reflections on human problems which involve moral judgment.

首先我們可以看到整句話的謂語動詞分別為：may teach，earn，make和involve，接著可以明顯的看到，謂語動詞involve的前面有個關係詞which，那很顯然這就是由which引導的定語從句來修飾先行詞human problems。定語從句梳理完之後，我們從頭看句子，可以發現may teach的主語是they，very well是副詞做狀語來修飾teach，然後是and連線的與may teach並列的謂語earn，同樣，這個謂語有個副詞more than來修飾。

這裡出現的more than，大家要特別注意，因為在大家的印象當中，more than按照字面意思翻譯，就是比

而在2001年的第四篇閱讀理解當中，出現的不再是“more than+動詞”的現象，而是more than+數字：

The role of human selection in evolution was formulated only a little more than a hundred years ago, and the selective role of the environment in shaping and maintaining the behavior of the individual is only beginning to be recognized and studied.

這句話是由and連線的並列句，前半句是被動語態結構結構，主語是the role of human selection in evolution, was formulated是謂語動詞，only a little more than a hundred years ago是表示時間的狀語，後半句中the selective role of the environment in shaping and maintaining the behavior of the individual是主語，is beginning是進行時態構成的謂語成分，to be recognized and studied是不定式做賓語，這句話中句子的結構是比較清晰的。在這句話中，more than後面加了數字，我們往往把它翻譯成：多餘......。而前面加了a little 來進行修飾，表示程度的大小。

除此之外，more than 後面還可以加形容詞，這時候more than本身就相當於一個程度副詞，用來修飾形容詞，比如：

Her performance was more than good; it was perfect.

這句話話中，more than後面加了形容詞good，more than修飾good，我們可以將其理解為“十分，非常”，所以，這裡more than good就表示“非常好，很完美”。

上述三個例子，more than都是放在一起用的，而眾所周知的是，more than是可以分開用的，例如1992年的翻譯真題中第71題：

There is more agreement on the kinds of behavior referred to by the term than there is on how to interpret or classify them.

這是一個典型的than引導的比較狀語從句，在這裡more...than最基本的意思就是“比......多”或者“比......更加”，但是這裡直譯的話，就是：有更多的一致意見在這個詞所指的不同表現方面，較少的一致意見對這些表現如何解釋或分類，但是這樣就會顯得比較生硬，所以這裡我們可以轉譯一下：對“智力”這個詞所指的不同表現人們意見比較一致，而對這些表現如何解釋或分類則有不同的看法。

總之，more than這個看似比較簡單的短語，但是當其分開使用和連起來使用是，其意義是不同的，而當連起來使用的more than後面加的詞性不一樣時，其意思也是不一樣的，所以，跨考教育張梅老師提醒考生一定要留意這一點。
